After finishing the basics of my mod, I'm trying to convert my java code into a .jar file using gradle. However, when i type "./gradlew build" into my terminal (on mac) it fails and reads this:

Johns-MacBook-Pro:forge-1 DiamondHunterZero$ ./gradlew build

FAILURE: Build failed with an exception.

* Where:

Build file '/Users/Ethannear/Desktop/programing/forge-1/build.gradle' line: 20

* What went wrong:

Could not compile build file '/Users/Ethannear/Desktop/programing/forge-1/build.gradle'.

> startup failed:

I am using the latest forge src download but it continues to insist there is something wrong with my 'version'. I can't even tell if it's the Forge version or my mod version in the build.file

This is what my build.file reads:

buildscript {

    repositories {

        mavenCentral()

        maven {

            name = "forge"

            url = "http://files.minecraftforge.net/maven"

        }

        maven {

            name = "sonatype"

            url = "https://oss.sonatype.org/content/repositories/snapshots/"

        }

    }

    dependencies {

        classpath 'net.minecraftforge.gradle:ForgeGradle:1.2-SNAPSHOT'

    }

}

apply plugin: 'forge'

version = “1.7 beta”

archivesBaseName = “PVP Legends - Alpha”

    version = "1.7.10-10.13.4.1448-1.7.10"

    runDir = "eclipse"

    // you may put jars on which you depend on in ./libs

    // or you may define them like so..

    // real examples

    //compile 'com.mod-buildcraft:buildcraft:6.0.8:dev'  // adds buildcraft to the dev env

    // this will ensure that this task is redone when the versions change.

    inputs.property "version", project.version

    inputs.property "mcversion", project.minecraft.version

    // replace stuff in mcmod.info, nothing else

    from(sourceSets.main.resources.srcDirs) {

        include 'mcmod.info'

What's wrong?

It looks like you've used the U+201C LEFT DOUBLE QUOTATION MARK (a.k.a smart quote) character instead of the U+0022 QUOTATION MARK character.

Please don't PM me to ask for help. Asking your question in a public thread preserves it for people who are having the same problem in the future.
