[1.8] Entity ocassionally not in client's Chunk.entityLists & not rendering

I've created a custom Rideable entity in my mod I'm able to spawn it in game and see it.

However ocassionaly when the player goes to a distant chunk and returns to the entity it will not render... sometimes its OK sometimes it's not.  The issue can be resolved by relogging into the SMP server or reloading a SSP world.

I've done a good deal of debugging & tracing the code and it seems to me that the entity is not in the Client's version of the EntityLists for the chunk & the shouldrender method is not geting called.

I've also confirmed the client is aware of the entiy & is in the correct location by adding logging statments in it's update methods.

I also belive it is an issue with entity not being in the Chunks entitylist because in SMP Player A may not be able to see the entity but Player B can and as soon as Player B rides the entity over a chunk border Player A's system will begin rendering the entity again.

Any suggestions as to why this may be occuring?

Just looking for a point in the right direction :)

Which entity?

What do you mean? When you log out and in, the entity is not there?

I might be terribly wrong.. Like really, really wrong. But I'm just trying to help.

Any of my entities will do this but the code is very similar.

The entities will desapear when the player travles away unloading the chunk the entity is in and will remain invisable untill the player relogs or another player drives the entity into a different chunk.

I know what you're talking about, I'm assuming these are big entities. What's happening is that if the Chunk their center position is in isn't being rendered, the game will decide not to render any of it :P . I got around this using the RenderWorldEvent, just look in the RenderGlobal class for a renderEntities() method, you'll see what I mean.

RagMan, Thanks for the tip .. i Think that will solve a different problem where the center chunk is not rendering... Thanks!

But this one the chunk is in view but the entities will not render... i'll see if i can make a video showing it off shortly.

Update: it seems setting addedToChunk = false; client side will cause them to render/re-appear when returning to chunks so I've done so in my client side update method.

I'm not sure if this will have any negative side effects.

Updating for anyone that may come across this later.

The workaround causes problems in 1.8.9 as i suspected it might.

It causes the entity to get rendered many times over which is not desirable so the issue is back for me.

What method call should be setting the entity as being in a chunk client side?

I ask because it seems its not getting called correctly in my mod some times so i suspect it could possibly be in a method i've overridden.

    • Culprit has been located! It was Tough As Nails + (plus) which was among one of the mods *added* before re-entering, in an attempt to improve compatibility. It, for some reason or another, did not want to work!
    • "You can either try to load it with only the vanilla data pack ("safe mode"), or go back to the title screen and fix it manually." Hello! I encountered this error just now while attempting to re-enter my world for the first time. Notably, no mods were removed before encountering this error and, while being able to find this error elsewhere on the internet, in my scenario it is seemingly caused by a specific mod, of which I cannot isolate. Things I have tried: - Enter "Safe Mode" (fails) - Remove datapacks (no change) - Reverted to old save data (no change) Here is the server log: https://mclo.gs/9vJQEfN I use Modrinth mod loader so please let me know how to share my mod list, and if it is needed.
    • So, i'm hosting (or attempting to host) a port-forwarded modded server for 1.12.2. There's quite a few mods in this pack, but they all run and have no compatibility issues (besides something causing the game to crash if you go fullscreen, a problem ive given up trying to identify or fix). It can run on 6gb of ram or less, and works fine in singleplayer. All of my friends that want to join have the exact same mod/config/game setup as I do (I personally helped them set everything up). Just to be safe, we've all allocated 12 gigabytes of RAM to the installation, and I've also allocated 12GB to the server itself. I am able to join with no issue and it runs fine. However, when they try to join, it gets stuck in the 'logging in' screen before their game becomes unresponsive. When they close it, it gives them the exit code 805306369, which usually means not enough RAM, but this cant be the case. On my screen, in the server, it shows them joining, and then disconnecting, so I dont think its a port-forwarding issue. They can all run it just fine in singleplayer as well. The annoying bit about this particular issue is that it generates no crash log. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks! Here is my debug log, and his, starting from the same place.
