Smelt Multiple Items into One?

I'm trying to find out if it is even possible and if so can anyone point me in the right direction? For example I would like to smelt 3 diamond into 1 emerald.

 

You'd need to make a new type of furnace that needed three ingredients to smelt instead of one.
