TBH, I'd gladly play modded Minecraft 1.8+.

What's stopping me is that many of my favorite mods are still on ~1.7.10.

If it's true then this is bullcrap, Reika's mods were always working fine, but if they really DID ruin my game, does that mean I should get rid of them or something?

Well, I wouldn't really care about getting rid of them too much, but I also sorta wanna keep 'em just so I don't have to make a new world and start all over, we did make some cool stuff after all.
