So I'm working on my first mod(Using online tutourial), and I'm having an issue with the setUnlocaliziedName method

package DrDaron5.firstmod;

import cpw.mods.fml.common.Mod;
import cpw.mods.fml.common.Mod.EventHandler;
import cpw.mods.fml.common.event.FMLInitializationEvent;
import cpw.mods.fml.common.event.FMLPostInitializationEvent;
import cpw.mods.fml.common.event.FMLPreInitializationEvent;
import cpw.mods.fml.common.registry.GameRegistry;
import net.minecraft.item.Item;

@Mod(modid = "fm", name = "First Mod", version = "1.0")
public class firstmod {

public static Item itemRobot;
@EventHandler
public void preInit(FMLPreInitializationEvent event){
	// Registration of Items/Handeling Config
	itemRobot = new ItemRobot().setUnlocalizedName("ItemRobot");
	GameRegistry.registerItem(itemRobot, itemRobot.getUnlocalizedName().substring(5));
}
@EventHandler
public void init(FMLInitializationEvent event) {
	// GUI, Enity, Proxy,and Entity
}
@EventHandler
public void postInit(FMLPostInitializationEvent event){

}
}

The Error says the following:  The method setUnlocalizedName(String) is undefined for the type ItemRobot firstmod.java /Minecraft/src/main/java/DrDaron5/firstmod line 18 Java Problem

Can someone tell what I'm doing wrong?

Can someone tell what I'm doing wrong?

For starters, you're using 1.7.10, which is no longer supported here. If you are stuck in an old Minecraft world, then you'll need to Google the problem and hope for a match with a solution.

Secondly, use the power of your IDE to trace compilation errors before you try to compile and run. My guess would be that the method is private or protected, so it can only be called from within the class. Try passing your argument to the constructor after creating a parameter to receive it. Then set the name from inside.

The debugger is a powerful and necessary tool in any IDE, so learn how to use it. You'll be able to tell us more and get better help here if you investigate your runtime problems in the debugger before posting.
