Hook for rendering inventory item overlay

In RenderItem.renderItemAndEffectIntoGUI(...) there is a call to ForgeHooksClient.renderInventoryItem(...), but in RenderItem.renderItemOverlayIntoGUI(...) there is no such hook.

This could be useful when drawing additional info (like a text string) overlayed on items in inventory, without changing the code where the item texture is rendered.

I suppose this will need a method ForgeHooksClient.renderInventoryItemOverlay(...) and a new type ItemRenderType.INVENTORY_OVERLAY

Maybe I'll pull-request it myself sometime.

I made Moses Mod, Dota 2 Items Mod, Rings of Power and Antique Atlas.

Armor Textures Aren't Showing In Game Since 1.21.4

they changed that.
now inside the folder assets/modid you have to create one folder called equipment. there you create yourmaterial.json
{ "layers": { "humanoid": [ { "texture": "modid:yourmaterial" } ], "humanoid_leggings": [ { "texture": "modid:yourmaterial" } ] } }

then in textures/item you put your armor pngs like material_helmet.png ...
then you create the folder textures/entity/equipment you create 2 more folders inside of equipment folder: humanoid and humanoid_leggings
inside humanoid you put yourmaterial_layer_1.png and inside humanoid _leggings put yourmaterial_layer_2 . then change both file names into yourmaterial.png

in my datagen i also call this:
generateTrimmableItem(ModItems.MATERIAL_HELMET.get(), ModEquipmentAssets.MATERIAL, TRIM_PREFIX_HELMET, false); so it creates the layers also for trims.
dont forget to add tags to your armor so you can enchant it, and trim.

Sorry for necro, but this is one of the first search results for this issue. Possible cause is Forge checking for zlib (the expected hash) and not accepting zlib-ng (the actual hash):

One possible workaround (aside from swapping zlib-ng for zlib which might cause other problems on your system) would be to use the prism flatpak.
