Hey!  So recently, 1.8.9 Forge has been consistently crashing while trying to run these 5 mods:

  • Batty's Coordinates PLUS Mod for Forge-1.8.9_001
  • cpsmod-1.2 (1.8.9)
  • OptiFine_1.8.9_HD_U_H4
  • Orange's 1.7 Animations-5.3
  • Orange's Simple Mods-1.2

I have used these mods countless times before, but now it crashes.  This is what it comes up as when it crashes, as well as the crash report, and any help would be appreciated:

Here's the important part of your error:

java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Malformed \uxxxx encoding.
    at java.util.Properties.loadConvert(Properties.java:574)
    at java.util.Properties.load0(Properties.java:390)
    at java.util.Properties.load(Properties.java:341)
    at batty.ui.BattyUI.retrieveRuntimeOptions(BattyUI.java:576)

Batty's Coordinates PLUS Mod is crashing your game due to a syntax error in your BatMod.runtime file, specifically an invalid Unicode escape sequence (supposed to be "\u" followed by 4 hexadecimal digits). If you don't know what that means or can't find it, upload the contents of that entire file.

    • Seemingly fixed, I had to delete the advancements json file for every player in the server as this seemed to be the error. After deleting the files and reloading the server, we were able to join back in.
