I am running vanilla Minecraft 1.12 client and the standard launcher. I have tried 3 builds of Forge 1.12 with the last one being forge-1.12-14.21.0.2349

The installations go without a hitch but the new Forge profile doesn't appear in the launcher. The install does create the profile sub-directory in the proper directory and it does contain the JSON file with matching version filename.

I have used Forge since version 1.10 and haven't seen this problem before.  Install log below:

Can you select the version when creating a new profile?

I had checked that before and didn't see Forge 1.12. But, following your advice, I checked again - for some reason the forge version is being put at the bottom of the list instead of being ordered by number so I never scrolled all the way past version 1.8 to see it. I might not be the only one to get confused by this but I still feel foolish :) Thanks so much for following up on this.

That took care of the issue.  Thanks so much Diesieben07

I am fairly new to the whole Mod thing.  I created a new profile, but I am not sure how to access Forge with it.

There is no user interface for Forge. If you successfully created a new profile and selected Forge then you are up and running. All you need to do now is copy the mods you want to run into your .minecraft/mods folder (for example C:\users\username\appdata\roaming\.minecraft\mods) the appdata folder is hidden by default so you'll need to set your folder view options to show hidden files and folders.
