1.8.9 forge no longer works and I can't figure out why.

I play 1.8.9 Minecraft mainly for the pvp. For a while I was only playing 1.8.9 forge but when I switched to 1.14.4, then switched back. Everything kept crashing. The game would launch, I would get to 1/7, then the game would crash. 
I have 1.14.3 forge installed and that works fine. I read that it may have to do with updating to Java 8, but idk. I need help.
