[1.14.4] I'm completely lost on how to start

So I've asked here on good 1.12.2 tutorials cause the one I was following was pretty bad and was just told to mess around and figure out myself, but after a bit of digging I found out a lot of bad practices was taught to me (ex. IHasModel) and decided to start from scratch in 1.14.4, but I have no idea on where to start again

I'd recommend reading through the update notes if you haven't already. That lists most/all of the differences in going from 1.12 to 1.14, so everything else should be about the same as before. (full disclosure, I haven't yet updated my mod to 1.14) Anyway, starting out is a pretty general question. I guess the best thing to do to get better at modding is to spend a lot of time trying to get better at modding. Maybe pick a very simple mod you want to make, something like just adding an item if you haven't done any modding before, and try it? As long as you keep in mind the changes listed in the update notes, you should be able to mostly use a 1.12 tutorial. You do know java, right?
