Hello,

 

First of all, sorry for this semi-tangential wall of text and any silly questions. I am not a programmer by trade. But during my studies in chemistry, I have got some programming experience, and since it irked me that there are no proper chemistry mods out there, I decided to give it my ow try. Currently, I am seperating different chemical compounds into broad item categories like 'salt'. The specific composition (for example, sodium chloride vs sodium bicarbonate) of the salt is stored in NBT tags on the item. I've managed to get this to work and to let my first machines use that NBT data to produce the right products. However, anyone with any chemistry experience will know that most chemical reactions are performed in the liquid/dissolved phase, so my next step is looking into fluids and seeing if I can repeat this trick.

 

In summary, my wishlist would be:

-the amount of new fluids are limited to a few compounds (like water, alcohol, ether etc.)

-I can use NBT tags to keep track of which compounds are dissolved inside the fluid

-the fluids will not lose their NBT tags when they are inside a machine

-if multiple instances of the same fluid stack are placed inside a machine while they have different NBT, they will refuse to mix (or even better, they will mix and add up their NBT)

 

Since I don't know anything about Forge fluids yet (haven't made a sinlge one so far), I am wondering whether this kind of thing is even possible. Can anyone help me out with determining how realistic this is, whether it would be worth the hassle and any suggestions on how to go about this?
