F3+G not showing up but does in Vanilla

I have forge for 1.16.1 and when I press f3+g it says "[DEBUG]: Chunk borders: shown" or "hidden" as it toggles, but doesn't actually do anything. I fired up a vanilla instance and that works fine. The log doesn't say anything about it except for the chat message. Thoughts?
