I think I needed to install Java on the new laptop with win10 as it was not there and windows did not recognize the file format and turned the installer file into an installer folder. it's fixed now though

Hi, I have just installed Minecraft for the first time and would like to run some mods for my son to play with some railway crossings. When I download forge, what I get is a folder and not an installer file. Not sure how to run the installation and if I need to fix something? I'm on Win10
