    Setting Up the Modding Environment in Outdated Version

    I'm aware 1.12.2 is an outdated version of Forge / Minecraft, yet devs are still producing mods in this version; how is this being done if the way forge sets up the "modding environment" has changed? Does one just download the Forge 1.12.2 MDK but follow the steps for importing 'gradle?' If someone could give me a detailed explanation of how I could create a mod / modding environment in an outdated version of Forge / Minecraft I'd be super grateful. Thanks.
