Happened to me the exact same problem as robobanana99. I was able to fix it, so I think I can help betraying how.
To fix this error simply swap lines
public static void init(FMLInitializationEvent event)
on
public void preInit(FMLPreInitializationEvent event)
which fixes this problem.
