1.16.5- My files weren't installing correctly and now they wont stop opening up in my web browser...

I was trying to install forge on my new laptop and after installing I realized that instead of opening up when clicked it asked me to choose an app. After choosing notepad I realized it was most likely because I had forgot to get Java. But now, even after installing Java, all of my java files are opening up as notepad files. I tried changing to my browser but that didn't work. If you know how to fix this please help.
