mineBlock never called on client

Hey guys, I am trying to implement a custom pickaxe and I am trying to override mineBlock, so I can do some stuff when a player is mining.

Problem is that I cannot send particles, because it seems like mineBlock() in DiggerItem is not called on the client, is that true?

I put some debug messages into it and didn't get them in the client log.
