"check console" Error message appears when I try to open installer.jar file

I downloaded the most recent version of the 1.18 forge installer, but when I try to open the file an error message pops up:

Java Application launch failed. Check Console for possible error messages related to ”/Users/*name*/Desktop/forge-1.18-38.0.15-installer 2.jar”.

When I double click the file, it looks like its opening but it closes immediately after. I tried with other Minecraft versions, and the exact same error occurs. I am using the latest version of Java, and am using a mac. Please help!

Open command prompt and type 

cd C:/Users/*yourusername*/Desktop

then type

java -jar "forge-1.18-38.0.15-installer 2.jar"

These commands are for Windows, but should also work on Mac

It will print the error
