Making a public modded server. What are things that I should keep in mind (hosted from my old pc)

Hi,

I'm planning on making a public server. Max players maybe 5-8.

What are things that I should keep in mind? Any suggestions security's sake etc. Mods that could help performance?
What about the start.bat what kind of lines should I use. Gonna be using 8gb at first and then upgrading later on if needed.

game changed the way you create foods.
for example minecraft 1.21.8 code for the golden apple is
