Question about tutorials (plants)

I've just started going through the tutorials on how to mod with Forge. For the most part, they are really well written and I've learned a lot working through them. However, I've run into a few issues I'm not seeing solutions to. In the plants (http://www.minecraftforge.net/wiki/Plants) tutorial, there is the following line:

world.setBlockMetadataWithNotify(x, y, z, 1);

Eclipse flags this with an error "The method setBlockMetadataWithNotify(int, int, int, int, int) in the type World is not applicable for the arguments (int, int, int, int)". Similarly, the line

world.setBlockWithNotify(x, y, z, 0);

returns "The method setBlockWithNotify(int, int, int, int) is undefined for the type World". Have these methods been changed or modified by 1.6? Have I missed something that I should have seen in another tutorial?

Lastly, the tutorial has the following line

public static final ItemSeeds tomatoSeeds = (ItemSeeds) new ItemSeeds(5002,
            tomatoCrop.blockID, Block.tilledField.blockID).setIconIndex(2)
            .setTextureFile(CommonProxy.ITEMS_PNG);

The .setIconIndex(2) throws an error and the .setTextureFile flags ITEMS_PNG as not existing. That makes sense to me as I have not created that constant in the CommonProxy class. I've looked all over for how to set up the constants for CommonProxy so that textures can be assigned to blocks but I'm not finding a good tutorial about it. Am I missing something or does that tutorial not exist? (The Icons and Textures tutorial was very helpful but it does not cover this topic).

Any insights into what I can do to clean up these errors is greatly appreciated.

Look into World class for "setBlock", there are quite a few methods there.

The names and behaviour changed a bit due to Mojang updates (i think it was in 1.4 actually).

setIconIndex() and setTextureFile() methods don't exist in 1.6. The Icons are replacement for them. CommonProxy has nothing to do with it by the way.

Good luck, have fun :)

Instead of using the TomatoCrop class in that tutorial, I would recommend this one:

package tutorial.generic;

import java.util.Random;

import net.minecraft.block.BlockCrops;
import net.minecraft.client.renderer.texture.IconRegister;
import net.minecraft.util.Icon;
import cpw.mods.fml.relauncher.Side;
import cpw.mods.fml.relauncher.SideOnly;

public class TomatoCrop extends BlockCrops
{
    @SideOnly(Side.CLIENT)
    private Icon[] iconArray;

    public TomatoCrop(int par1)
    {
        super(par1);
    }

    @SideOnly(Side.CLIENT)

    /**
     * From the specified side and block metadata retrieves the blocks texture. Args: side, metadata
     */
    public Icon getIcon(int par1, int par2)
    {
        if (par2 < 7)
        {
            if (par2 == 6)
            {
                par2 = 5;
            }

            return this.iconArray[par2 >> 1];
        }
        else
        {
            return this.iconArray[3];
        }
    }

    /**
     * Generate a seed ItemStack for this crop.
     */
    protected int getSeedItem()
    {
        return Generic.tomatoSeeds.itemID;
    }

    /**
     * Generate a crop produce ItemStack for this crop.
     */
    protected int getCropItem()
    {
        return Generic.tomatoFruit.itemID;
    }

    /**
     * Returns the quantity of items to drop on block destruction.
     */
    public int quantityDropped(Random par1Random)
    {
        return 1;
    }

    @SideOnly(Side.CLIENT)

    /**
     * When this method is called, your block should register all the icons it needs with the given IconRegister. This
     * is the only chance you get to register icons.
     */
    public void registerIcons(IconRegister par1IconRegister)
    {
        this.iconArray = new Icon[4];

        for (int i = 0; i < this.iconArray.length; ++i)
        {
            this.iconArray[i] = par1IconRegister.registerIcon("generic:" + "tomatoes_" + i);
        }
    }
}

Then you would place tomatoes_1.png, tomatoes_2.png, tomatoes_3.png, and tomatoes_4.png in "assets/generic/textures/blocks".

Examples:

tomatoes_0: w5b6.png

tomatoes_1: k7p2.png

tomatoes_2: blj3.png

tomatoes_3: y1n2.png

    • Hello I'm looking for help launching minecraft through curseforge. I've scoured the Internet and can't seem to find anyone with a solution to my specific situation/fix that I haven't tried. I'll post the Curseforge debug Logs below. But basically I'm on a Laptop (Lenovo Legion Slim 7 2021) And the people I've seen with the most similar scenario and found a fix they always had an AMD graphics card and were missing the correct drivers, Well i have the Nvidia geforce RTX 3060 Laptop version with all the most updated drivers, I've reinstalled the drivers so that doesn't seem to me the problem. Also, minecraft will launch in vanilla and through another modloader called modrinth. So it doesn't feel like a Java error either but I don't no how to read this debug page so I'm looking for advice. Please help?!
    • Hello. Basically I made a custom standalone util library (https://github.com/lolhol/Pathfinder3D) and want to use it with my mod. Although I have done the normal jit pack stuff (basically the tutorial on their website) the Minecraft crashes the second it starts saying that it cannot find the name of a class inside of my library. (When I remove the implement(<my library link thingy>) mc launches normally and does not crash (if I comment out the code that uses the custom lib)). Now then, is there a quick fix for this because all of the other questions that I found on this topic were trying to load another mod (again, not what I’m trying to do). Am I doing something wrong?

    • Hello, im kind of a newbie on creating mods, and i been trying to make simples mods so far, Right now, i'm creating a mod which detect an specific type of mob and kill it if reach a certain number, by far the mod is detecting the mob and counting them but at the time it reach the limit number, it don't do anything. The Game don't tweak, don't crash, just i't don't run the method i call, which is kill().   public InteractionResultHolder<ItemStack> use(Level pLevel, Player pPlayer, InteractionHand pUsedHand) { final var TotalCows = pLevel.getNearbyEntities(Cow.class, TargetingConditions.forNonCombat(), pPlayer, pPlayer.getBoundingBox().inflate(5)); if(pLevel.isClientSide){ if(pPlayer.getItemInHand(InteractionHand.MAIN_HAND).getItem() == this.asItem()){ if(!TotalCows.isEmpty()){ if(TotalCows.get(0).isAlive()){ TotalCows.get(0).kill(); } }else{ pPlayer.sendSystemMessage(Component.literal("No hay vacas")); } } } The sendSystemMessage is get triggered, and when i change the method .kill() by any other like send a message it got called, can i get some tips, and a clue of what i'm missing
    • UPD: I DID IT   @Override public void applyEffectTick(LivingEntity livingEntity, int pAmplifier) { Level level = livingEntity.level(); if (!level.isClientSide()) { Holder<DamageType> entropyHolder = level .registryAccess() .registryOrThrow(Registries.DAMAGE_TYPE) .getHolderOrThrow(GTDamageTypes.ENTROPY_KEY); livingEntity.hurt(new DamageSource(entropyHolder), 1); } super.applyEffectTick(livingEntity, pAmplifier); }
