Question about tutorials (plants)

I've just started going through the tutorials on how to mod with Forge. For the most part, they are really well written and I've learned a lot working through them. However, I've run into a few issues I'm not seeing solutions to. In the plants (http://www.minecraftforge.net/wiki/Plants) tutorial, there is the following line:

 

world.setBlockMetadataWithNotify(x, y, z, 1);

 

Eclipse flags this with an error "The method setBlockMetadataWithNotify(int, int, int, int, int) in the type World is not applicable for the arguments (int, int, int, int)". Similarly, the line

 

world.setBlockWithNotify(x, y, z, 0);

 

returns "The method setBlockWithNotify(int, int, int, int) is undefined for the type World". Have these methods been changed or modified by 1.6? Have I missed something that I should have seen in another tutorial?

 

Lastly, the tutorial has the following line

            .setTextureFile(CommonProxy.ITEMS_PNG);

 

The .setIconIndex(2) throws an error and the .setTextureFile flags ITEMS_PNG as not existing. That makes sense to me as I have not created that constant in the CommonProxy class. I've looked all over for how to set up the constants for CommonProxy so that textures can be assigned to blocks but I'm not finding a good tutorial about it. Am I missing something or does that tutorial not exist? (The Icons and Textures tutorial was very helpful but it does not cover this topic).

 

Any insights into what I can do to clean up these errors is greatly appreciated.

Look into World class for "setBlock", there are quite a few methods there.

The names and behaviour changed a bit due to Mojang updates (i think it was in 1.4 actually).

 

setIconIndex() and setTextureFile() methods don't exist in 1.6. The Icons are replacement for them. CommonProxy has nothing to do with it by the way.

Instead of using the TomatoCrop class in that tutorial, I would recommend this one:

Then you would place tomatoes_1.png, tomatoes_2.png, tomatoes_3.png, and tomatoes_4.png in "assets/generic/textures/blocks".

    • REM Forge requires a configured set of both JVM and program arguments.     • I looked into OctoEconomyAPI and saw that it was a JAR api for fabric. This means you have a fabric mod in your mods folder. I downloaded your mod folder and wasted 2 solid hours creating a Python script to try to find the faulty mod, and eventually just gave up. I suggest you create two installations with half or the mods in each, find which one doesn't launch, cut that one in half, and repeat until you find the fabric mod. Investigué OctoEconomyAPI y vi que era una API JAR para fabric. Esto significa que tienes un mod de Fabric en tu carpeta de mods. Descargué su carpeta de mods y desperdicié 2 horas completas creando un script de Python para tratar de encontrar el mod defectuoso, y finalmente me di por vencido.     • I've got it to work now. Instead of using the texture manager I used the Render System:   RenderSystem.setShaderTexture(0, new ResourceLocation("mcaquests", "textures/item/questbook.png"));
