Creating a container without tile entity

Hi, I'd like to make an item that shows a GUI when right-clicked. The GUI should have on slot which you can place one item in, if it is the right kind of item, it will be deleted and some text should be displayed in the GUI specific to the item.


However, I've been having a lot of trouble with this. As I'm using an item, I can't use an Tile Entity for the update method and inventory.


How would I go about doing this?
