Custom player animations

Hi, I'm fairly new to minecraft modding. I now the basics of Java as I took classes for it at my university and some other languages. I've been having issues trying to add animations to the player using blockbench. First,  I want to ask if it's possible to give the player custom animations using blockbench.

Second, if it's possible. What are the steps that I should take to achieve this. The animations I want to add are attack animations and I want to play them when pressing certain keys on the keyboard.

The version is Minecraft 1.19.2, it's is also for Fabric but it shouldn't be too different from Forge so that shouldn't be an issue
