1.20.1 Minecraft 1.20.1 server using command prompt for the first time starting

i ran the command in command prompt, this was the command

java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.1.20.1.jar nogui

and then i tried

java -jar minecraft_server.jar --nogui

neither worked

I've written instructions on how to install and run a Forge server. Modern versions require you to use the supplied run.sh/run.bat and Java 17.
