1.6.4 Custom Rendered Armor

Hi i have made a mod and i would like to know how do i make custom rendered armor like a different model then like the chest plate and you can wear it and everything

I know bumps usually happen to keep threads open and this is hardly inactive yet but I made my account here to ask this exact question so if anyone knows how to do so, It'd be very much appreciated. I'm almost starting to think it's some sort of trade secret because I can't find any documentation for it anywhere.
