trouble running .jar files on Mac computer.

hello,

I'm having trouble making my mods work on forge, whenever I open forge only Minecraft and forge show up in the mods folder. I get an error message every time I try to open a jar file even though I have java working on my Mac computer. I tried to use an app called archive utility to open them but even after doing that my mods don't show up. I'm on Minecraft 1.20.4 , most of my mods support that version.
