Earlier this was my code:-

Tutorial.java (main file)

package com.ablaze.tutorial;

import net.minecraft.block.Block;
import net.minecraft.init.Blocks;
import cpw.mods.fml.common.Mod;
import cpw.mods.fml.common.Mod.EventHandler;
import cpw.mods.fml.common.event.FMLInitializationEvent;
import cpw.mods.fml.common.registry.GameRegistry;

@Mod(modid = Tutorial.MODID, version = Tutorial.VERSION)
public class Tutorial
{
    public static final String MODID = "tutorialmod";
    public static final String VERSION = "1.0";

    public static Block tutorialBlock;

    @EventHandler
    public void init(FMLInitializationEvent event)
    {
	tutorialBlock = new BlockTutorialBlock().func_149663_c("tutorialBlock");

	GameRegistry.registerBlock(tutorialBlock, (tutorialBlock.func_149739_a().substring(5)));
    }
}

BlockTutorialBlock.java

package com.ablaze.tutorial;

import net.minecraft.block.Block;
import net.minecraft.block.material.Material;
import net.minecraft.creativetab.CreativeTabs;

public class BlockTutorialBlock extends Block{

public BlockTutorialBlock() {
	super(Material.field_151576_e);
	this.func_149647_a(CreativeTabs.tabBlock);
}

}

I had my en_US.lang file located in Modding/forge/src/main/resources/assets/tutorialmod/lang.

The contents were:

tile.tutorialBlock.name=Tutorial Block

And it worked fine. I wanted to move on to textures, so I modified my Tutorial.java to this:-

package com.ablaze.tutorial;

import net.minecraft.block.Block;
import net.minecraft.init.Blocks;
import cpw.mods.fml.common.Mod;
import cpw.mods.fml.common.Mod.EventHandler;
import cpw.mods.fml.common.event.FMLInitializationEvent;
import cpw.mods.fml.common.registry.GameRegistry;

@Mod(modid = Tutorial.MODID, version = Tutorial.VERSION)
public class Tutorial
{
    public static final String MODID = "tutorialmod";
    public static final String VERSION = "1.0";

    public static Block tutorialBlock;

    @EventHandler
    public void init(FMLInitializationEvent event)
    {
	tutorialBlock = new BlockTutorialBlock().func_149663_c("tutorialBlock").func_149658_d(Tutorial.MODID + ":" + "tutorialBlock");

	GameRegistry.registerBlock(tutorialBlock, (tutorialBlock.func_149739_a().substring(5)));
    }
}

Note the .func_149658_d(Tutorial.MODID + ":" + "tutorialBlock");.

I placed the tutorialBlock.png (same texture as stone) in Modding\forge\src\main\resources\assets\tutorialmod\textures\blocks. I run the client and searched for "Tutorial Block", but there is no such block!

I'm using build 997.

My workspace is the eclipse folder within the forge folder.

Please instruct and help me.

Regards,

Ablaze.

This thread makes me sad because people just post copy-paste-ready code when it's obvious that the OP has little to no programming experience. This is not how learning works.

The Creative Tab search menu.

I have more updates. So I decided to move on, and make an item. Well, guess what - that doesn't show up either. I thought it could be the fault of the textures folder, so I deleted that. Still no progress.

I'm concentrating on getting the blocks and items to show up. Once they show up, I'll try and figure out how to do the textures. So whoever is trying to help me, firstly thanks and next, forget about textures for now. I just want them to show up in the creative menu.

Tutorial.java

	GameRegistry.registerItem(tutorialItem, (tutorialItem.getUnlocalizedName().substring(5)));
    }
}

}

ItemTutorialItem.java

package com.ablaze.tutorial;

import net.minecraft.creativetab.CreativeTabs;
import net.minecraft.item.Item;

public class ItemTutorialItem extends Item {
public ItemTutorialItem() {
	super();
	this.setCreativeTab(CreativeTabs.tabMisc);
}
}

Please help.

P.S. SanAndreas I'm a big fan :)

You need to add your block/item to one of the creative tabs in order to see them in the search tab.

https://github.com/SanAndreasP/EnderStuffPlus/blob/master/java/sanandreasp/mods/EnderStuffPlus/registry/ESPModRegistry.java#L185-L188

In your block / item initialization add .setCreativeTab (or whatever the equivalent to it is in 1.7.x). The parameter is the creative tab you wanna put your item in. In my example I have a custom one, but for your purposes you can use one of the instances within the class CreativeTabs (like CreativeTabs.tabBlock)

If you see in the constructor of BlockTutorialBlock and ItemTutorialItem, then you will see that I have done it.

I see.

Can I see your full log? (in spoilers please)

May I know what log? The one that prints out when you run Minecraft in eclipse? I'm not sure how to show that, as when the log gets too long, some of the stuff at the beginning gets erased and I can't scroll up to see and copy it.

In your Forge Folder, there's a file called ForgeModLoader-client-0.log

put the content on a pastebin site (e.g. https://gist.github.com/) and post the link to it here.

I may see what's going on. You register your blocks / items in FMLInitializationEvent (namely in the method init)

You should register them during preInit (FMLPreInitializationEvent)

See if that's the problem.

Yeah, it worked. Thanks a lot! Can you just explain why preInit works and init doesn't?

I have a link which explains this quite well:
