[1.7.2] Damaging tools

Recommended Posts

Hello modder-friends  :) !

I'm beginner at modding and wanted to make a "wrench" like the wrench from Thermal Expansion!

When you click with the wrench on a block the block gets deleted and you get it as item back.

I tried damaging the tool:

 public class ItemMeatTool extends ItemTool{

private static final Set field_150915_c = Sets.newHashSet(new Block[] {TestMod.blockMeat, TestMod.blockCookedMeat, TestMod.blockSpecialMeat});

protected ItemMeatTool(float p_i45333_1_, ToolMaterial p_i45333_2_,
		Set p_i45333_3_) {
	super(p_i45333_1_, p_i45333_2_, p_i45333_3_);
	// TODO Auto-generated constructor stub
}

 protected ItemMeatTool(Item.ToolMaterial p_i45347_1_)
    {
        super(2.0F, p_i45347_1_, field_150915_c);
    }

 public boolean onItemUse(ItemStack par1ItemStack, EntityPlayer par2EntityPlayer, World par3World, int par4, int par5, int par6, int par7, float par8, float par9, float par10)
 {

	 if(blockSpecialMeat.breakBlock = true) {

		 par1ItemStack.damageItem(1, par2EntityPlayer);

		 blockSpecialMeat.breakBlock = false; //<----- This is just a variable from the block-class that checks if I click with the wrench on the block
                                                                                    //the variable is true when I clicked on the block with the wrench
	 }

	return true;
 }
}

I clicked on the block and the item lost 1 durability! Great! Not! When I updatet the item (clicked on it in my inventory) it said the old durability again!

I'm very confused from that! I hope someone can help me!

This damages the Item and plays a break sound and deletes it.

if (itemStack.attemptDamageItem(1, rand)) {
            itemStack.stackSize--;
            if (itemStack.stackSize < 0)
                itemStack.stackSize = 0;
            itemStack.setItemDamage(0);
            itemStack = null;
            Minecraft.getMinecraft().getSoundHandler().playSound(PositionedSoundRecord.func_147673_a(new ResourceLocation("random.break")));
        }

I added the code and when I click on the block it removes the durability! But as soon as I update the Item it drops back :(  It's like "Hmmm You broke that block lets remove 1 durability!, Oh wait! The block is not there let'S add one durability again!" It#s really weird I don't really understand why it's removing durability and then adding again

Make sure its called on the client and the server. Your blockSpecialMeat.breakBlock variable is probably only true on the client. You can test is by using a simple println at the place where you damage the item. The print should appear twice.

    • One of my players is suddenly unable to join a locally hosted MC Eternal server. We have been playing on this server for about 2-3 weeks now. I have tried erasing his player files and his reputation file, and now it just coughs up this and kicks him out: [User Authenticator #5/INFO] [minecraft/NetHandlerLoginServer]: UUID of player EthosTheGod is 7692d8db-02c3-424f-a4ab-0e4e259b106b [20:25:36] [User Authenticator #4/INFO] [minecraft/NetHandlerLoginServer]: UUID of player EthosTheGod is 7692d8db-02c3-424f-a4ab-0e4e259b106b [20:29:35] [Server thread/WARN] [minecraft/MinecraftServer]: Can't keep up! Any ideas?
    • I'm trying to migrate my mod from 1.20 to 1.21. Some packages in the forge api were changed so my mod did have some classes not working. I've changed everything i needed but still is getting me the following error error: cannot access Registry DeferredRegister.create(ForgeRegistries.BLOCKS, FarmMod.MOD_ID); ^ class file for net.minecraft.core.Registry not found The piece of code that is wrong is   public static final DeferredRegister<Block> BLOCKS = DeferredRegister.create(ForgeRegistries.BLOCKS, FarmMod.MOD_ID); And here are my imports   import com.lucas.farmmod.FarmMod; import com.lucas.farmmod.block.custom.BaseIrrigatorBlock; import com.lucas.farmmod.item.ModItems; import com.lucas.farmmod.item.custom.BaseIrrigatorBlockItem; import net.minecraft.world.item.BlockItem; import net.minecraft.world.item.Item; import net.minecraft.world.level.block.Block; import net.minecraft.world.level.block.state.BlockBehaviour; import net.minecraftforge.eventbus.api.IEventBus; import net.minecraftforge.registries.DeferredRegister; import net.minecraftforge.registries.ForgeRegistries; import net.minecraftforge.registries.RegistryObject; The class DeferredRegister is throwing the error in the print below     I've tried running rebuilding my project in every way possible, tried refreshing my dependencies but nothing works. What can i do?
    • It sounds like there might be a synchronization issue with your PartEntity. Ensure that the part entity’s position is updated in your entity's tick method to continuously match the main entity’s location.
    • For keyboard and mouse inputs, Minecraft Forge utilizes the event system to manage interactions, making it easier to handle across different mods. If you’re looking to bypass this and read inputs directly, you’d typically look into the KeyboardListener and MouseListener classes in the game's code. These classes process input events directly from the user's hardware. If you're experimenting with inputs a lot, you might find a compact keypad handy for quick commands. Check out numeric keyboard . It can speed up your coding workflow! Good luck!
