How to send packets properly?

Hello guys, I need some help to send my packet and synchronization. I created the following packet in my tileentity class:

@Override

public Packet getDescriptionPacket() {

NBTTagCompound compound = new NBTTagCompound();

compound.setByte("creatureID", (byte) creatureID);

return new S35PacketUpdateTileEntity(this.xCoord, this.yCoord, this.zCoord, 1, compound);

}

@Override

public void onDataPacket(NetworkManager net, S35PacketUpdateTileEntity packet) {

this.creatureID = packet.func_148857_g().getByte("creatureID");

}

However it is called only when I place the block or reenter the game. I would like to sync it with my renderer, actually just once, since it's expensive. But I don't know how to do it... So I can't get the right variables from the tileentity.
