Empty hand as a tool

There are some mods that have tools to perform operations such as rotating, transforming blocks. The outcome is shortage of inventory space. What would be a good solution is to use empty hand as a tool. Combined with sneak+right click you get another "tool".

Not sure about using an empty hand but I can definitely see the appeal of being able to store multiple tools in one item. I see this being implemented similar to Wand Foci from Thaumcraft, except without the fancy UI... I might steal this idea for the mod I'm developing.
