[1.7.10]Custom Seed Crashing Minecraft

Hello! I'm trying to make a custom crop that is the clone of the wheat crop. Anytime I try to plant the seed on farmland, minecraft just shuts down. This problems only occurs when I have the seed planting the custom plant, but when I have it planting wheat, the seed works fine.

This thread makes me sad because people just post copy-paste-ready code when it's obvious that the OP has little to no programming experience. This is not how learning works.

Yes, this is a common mistake with custom seeds.  As diesieben07 points out, you have actually made your seed plant a "null".  This is a Java programming point that is important to understand -- if something is null and you assign another object with its value when you update that something later it doesn't automatically update the second object: it will still point to null.

 

A pattern like this doesn't work:

 

    ObjectA objA;

    ObjectA objB = objA;

    objA = new ObjectA();

 

In such an example, objB will stay null.  It will NOT track changes to objA.

      Add crash-reports with sites like https://mclo.gs/ Make a test without any mods - just Forge If this works, add the mods in groups   Or use a pre-configured modpack as working base and add new mods one by one

      I cant see my skin on any version of forge

      I was playing and I noticed that I am not able to see my custom skin. At first I thought it was due to some mod but after removing all of them and there being no change I thought about changing the installation version. change the dns, change the version of the game, check my skin on the minecraft website and I still don't get anything. I would appreciate if you could help me. PD: I play in a singleplayer world
