[1.7.10] How to get an item's metadata

Ok so basically, I am using FurnaceRecipes to check if a block has one then getting the output item and such. My problem is, if the output item has metadata then I won't be able to drop the item correctly I believe. So, is there anyway to get an item's metadata from the ItemStack or Item class?

But see, wouldn't that be getting the stack damage as if it is a tool or something of the like?
