I want to make a scrollable list of buttons (which then edits the itemstack in an slot), but I really dont know where to begin... Any hints or something?

Thanks :)

Buttons (Gui) are client-side only. Aside from that fact - you shouldn't give players ability to change stuff on client.

Aside from that, if feature is for creative mode only - you don't need to worry about anything since creative player is allowed (by vanilla itself) to change ItemStacks (updates don't go server->client, but are bipolar).

So after thinking about the design, now how to actually code gui:

Consider updating to at least 1.7.10 as I don't know if 1.7.2 has methods/classes I'm gonna mention.

First of all, look into vanilla or forge's option menu - talking about controls.

If you wan't to know how stuff works or code more flexible stuff - look into GuiScrollingList or GuiListExtended.

All that should be put into GuiScreen.

And as I always tell - Gui is something that can't have tutorial for all cases. Vanillas code and time are your allies.

Why not update?

1.7.10 is no longer supported by forge, you are on your own.

Why does it need to be scrollable? Because you have lots of them?

Anyway, the general idea is that you would create a class that extends GuiScreen. Then in the initGui() method you would create all the buttons. You would also have fields to remember the amount of scrolling. in the drawScreen() method you would then draw the buttons in a position based on the amount of scrolling. To control the scrolling you could look at other GUIs that have slider scrolling, or you could create "up" and "down" buttons. If you created buttons for the scrolling then you would handle the actionPerformed() method and adjust the scroll amount based on which button was pressed. In the updateScreen() method, for any button that is scrolled far enough to go off the screen, you would set visible to false.

That's pretty much the idea -- just keep track of the scroll and draw the buttons locations according to the amount of scrolling.

    • Hey everyone! Two of my friends downloaded this modpack and are having an issue with the blocks loading in correctly. Grass looks like bamboo, waystones look like two barrels stacked on eachother, and wheat looks like water and stairs. What is this problem? How can we fix it? Neither of my other friends or myself had this issue.
    • I removed Yung's cave biome mod and It wasnt in one of those biomes however the log file said the same line (([25Apr2025 21:20:15.500] [Flywheel Task Executor #5/WARN] [Embeddium-MixinTaintDetector/]: Mod(s) [oculus] are modifying Embeddium class me.jellysquid.mods.sodium.client.render.vertex.serializers.VertexSerializerRegistryImpl, which may cause instability.))
    • Note: i had a couple of ideas, but i just don't know how to execute them. The main idea was to make the new block (let's exemplify with a mixer) be essentially a clone of the mechanical mixer (different texture tho) that would have a different recipe type (instead of mixing, advanced_mixing) and i would copy all the create mod recipes and edit the processing time while also adding the tier dependent ones.
    • Hi! Before everything, thank you for even reading. I'm coming here in need of help making a few aspects for a create mod addon. It's an addon that aims to add almost the full periodic table with realistic ways of obtaining all the elements and capability of almost full automation. For what purpose? A techy armor and to go to the moon and rocky planets of the solar system. It'll have 3 different tiers of machines (mixer, millstone, crushing wheels): basic (just the normal create mod machines but renamed), advanced (25% faster and has recipes only possible for this tier and above) end elite (75% faster than basic and recipes only available for this tier). The problem is, I'm not a coder. I know less than the basics. I know how to do everything else but these machine tiers and i need some help if you can.
