I simply need a script or mod that will allow me to "save-all" my forge server every 10-15 minutes or so. I have tried using the backup addon of the Forge Essentials pack and it does not work for me.

save != backup

Saving happens internally by game itself.

Are you looking for mod or a help in coding it? This forum is for second.

You can make simple ServerTickEVent that would simply copy world/player data to backup folder. Copying big data will lag server so I recommond designing some checksum hierarchy (and check which chunks/players changed from last backup).

How would I make a script (a simple ServerTickEvent) that would "save-all" the server for me every 15 minutes?

Also, whats the difference between backup and save?

There is not a single person on thins forum that would write code for you.

1. Learn how to make mod.

2. Learn how to use Forge Events - particularly ServerTickEvent

3. Use it (event above) to after 15min (18000 ticks counter OR scheluded task without incrementation) to use your backup script.

4. You backup scrip can be even simple java utilizing File.class, BUT if you want to write efficien saver you would need to dig DEEp into MC saving code.

Also:

script != coding, so if you are asking about scripts - I assume you are not very familliar with Java.

Save is a save, backup is backup. One is original copy, second is backup copy of save. I can't explain it clearer.

1.7.10 is no longer supported by forge, you are on your own.

Hi

I think what you want is to create a backup of the saved game files every 15 minutes?  So that if your saved game gets trashed, you can restore from backup?

In that case you need to stop minecraft from continuously saving the world, then copy the files, then resume.

command save off

command save all

copy files

command save on

I've written a mod that among other things periodically performs a backup copy, see here for inspiration

https://github.com/TheGreyGhost/SpeedyTools/blob/master/src/main/java/speedytools/serverside/backup/MinecraftSaveFolderBackups.java

and

https://github.com/TheGreyGhost/SpeedyTools/blob/master/src/main/java/speedytools/serverside/backup/FolderBackup.java

It has some extra functionality you don't need, the core ideas are there.

But I'm sure there are other mods around which do that, that's how I figured out what to do in the first place.  No luck with google?

I wouldn't do my backup from inside minecraft.

My opinion of the best way to run a server is on a Linux system.  Mount a ramdisk at boot, load minecraft onto it, setup the saves to the normal disk periodically, setup scripts to create a backup on whatever frequency you want.

    • Thanks, I've now installed a slightly newer version and the server is at least starting up now.

    • The crash points to moonlight lib - try other builds or make a test without this mod and the mods requiring it
    • Do you have shaders enabled? There is an issue with the mod simpleclouds - remove this mod or disable shaders, if enabled
    • Maybe you need to create file in assets/<modid>/items/<itemname>.json with content like this:   { "model": { "type": "minecraft:model", "model": "modname:item/itemname" } }
