Menus and Icons messed up after installing any mods.

Hi,  Really hoping someone can help.  I am using a Mac, have minecraft 1.8.8 and have installed Forge 1.8.  I then installed a new skin pack all of which worked great.  Then I started to install a couple of mods and that's where things went wrong.  The mod works ok, but the game menus are all mixed up so for example a bucket in the menu will look like a bucket but will say redstone for example, this is with most icons.  In the game the game itself then shows what the words say i.e. redstone rather than a bucket.  In my minecraft house for example the roof used to have glowstone lighting which after installing a mod will be obsidian for example, the grass is fences and the items in my hand are non descript.  This seems to be the case with any mods I install.  I of course tried uninstalling the mods and reinstalling one at a time.  When there are no mods installed the game is fine, as soon as I put in any mod (only those compatible with forge and 1.8) the menus are messed up again.  I read somewhere that you should delete the META INF file - I couldn't find that so am not sure if that has anything to do with it?  I also reinstalled Forge again and selected that version in the game but the exact same thing happened again.  There are also hundreds of horses now outside my minecraft house which I am not sure where they came from!  I also tried setting up a new world in case this had a bearing on it, but it was exactly the same issue.  The mods I tried were animal bikes, wonderful wands and wizarding robes, doggy talents and shipwreck.  I should say and it may be clear that I am not an expert on the computer so any help is appreciated!!  I am basically trying to sort this out for my kids. Thanks again.

Hi again, thanks for trying to help.  It has happened with every mod I have tried without exception.  The first time I downloaded the mods was a few weeks back (been trying to fix it since then).  I first downloaded a few at one time which were animal bikes, doggy talents and Shipwreck (all from minecraftsix).  The header page shows the new mods.

I tried starting a new world to see if it was just the old world that was messed up but no, both are affected.  I deleted them all and then tried reinstalling one at a time.  Same result.  I also tried Wands and Wizardy 1.8/1.7.1 from minecraft time, lucky block 1.8 from minecraftfile.com and minions mod 1.8/1.7.10 later, all separately, all with the same problems...

Then last weekend after I had reinstalled forge (and selected the new forge in the header page) I tried again and downloaded More bows M1.8-2.0.0a2.jar from Minecraft Curse forge.  Again the menus were all messed up and the bows looked all wrong; one was just a yellow square ( I have seen this with a couple of previous mods I have tried to download).  I deleted that mod and then tried Animal plus and Animal Bikes both from the MCF Mod List.  Same thing every time, menus all messed up and the landscape changed to fit the messed up menus.  The menus are not always messed up the same way but most items are not what they say they should be, and any new icons don't look the way they should - one may be a yellow square, or a fuzzy picture for example.  Every time as soon as I delete the mods from the mods folder the game plays normally i.e. the menus are back to normal as is the landscape.

Try disabling the new loading screen (read the EAQ on how to). Your graphics card just might not like it.

Also, please NEVER ever download anything from sites like minecraftsix again! They freeboot mods and claim false stuff (e.g. a 1.7.10 mod claimed to be compatible with 1.8 )

Read this: http://stopmodreposts.org/

(EDIT: after a look at that site, it seems to link to the original files, so I can assume it's safe, but still, please download mods only from their original source)

This thread makes me sad because people just post copy-paste-ready code when it's obvious that the OP has little to no programming experience. This is not how learning works.

Hi, That seemed to work!  I disabled the loading screen in splash properties.  The game is playing with a mod and without any confused menus which is the first time that has happened.  Huge thank you for your help.  I read the link as well about where to download mods which makes a lot of sense, to be honest I find it quite difficult to know if I have the original source but I guess just sticking the the MCF list would be better? I read somewhere a while ago not to download various types of file, so hopefully together that should keep me right.

The only thing that did happen that was a bit unusual was that once I had downloaded the mod (animal plus - from the MCF list) when I loaded the game I got a message coming up which said "Forge loader detected that the backup level.dat is being used.  This may happen due to a bug or corruption.  Continuing can damage your world beyond repair or lose data/progress.  It is recommended to create a world back up before continuing"

I made a back up copy of the world in case and it ran fine after that.  Should I be worried if I keep getting this message?

Either way thanks you so much for your help.  Really appreciated.
