[Solved] [1.8] How to update Forge version

LordMastodon

Recommended Posts

So, I loaded up the dev environment and saw that there's a new version of Forge. I'm wondering if there's a way to update my version without downloading the new version from the website and setting up the whole thing again and just inserting all my class files. I'm pretty sure this existed in 1.7.10 because I saw a Pahimar video on it, but does it exist for 1.8? And if so, how can I use it?

Who are you? Why have you brought me here? And why are there so many PewDiePie fanboys surrounding meeeeeeeee....... *falls into pit and dies*.

It's the same for any version of Forge that uses ForgeGradle: change the

minecraft.version

field in your build.gradle script to the appropriate version from files.minecraftforge.net and refresh or regenerate your IDE project.

Recent versions of 1.8 have changed the way that the ForgeGradle plugin is applied (since there's now a stable version rather than a snapshot), so if you're updating to version 1503 or newer you should copy the changes to your build.gradle script.

How do I refresh/regenerate my project (using Eclipse)? Also, how would I know what changes are being made (updating to 1506)?

For Eclipse, run

gradlew setupDecompWorkspace cleanEclipse eclipse

. For IDEA, run the

setupDecompWorkspace

task and then refresh it in the Gradle tab.

Download and extract the version 1506 MDK (the new name for the src download), open its build.gradle file in a text editor and compare it to your current one. You'll want to replace the

buildscript

block and

apply plugin

line of your build.gradle with the

plugins

block of the new build.gradle.

So for the new src should I also run the whole

gradlew setupDecompWorkspace --refresh-dependencies

and

gradlew eclipse

on it or just copy the file immediately after download?

There's no need to run Gradle for the MDK download, just copy the ForgeGradle plugin declaration and Forge version from the build.gradle file into yours and run the Gradle commands I mentioned for your project.

I've downloaded the most recent version of Gradle (2.6) from the website and extracted it into my downloads folder, but how do I tell ForgeGradle where it is?

If you have Gradle installed on your computer, you can use that instead of the wrapper, by using

gradle

instead of

gradlew

in the commands.

Don't PM me with questions. They will be ignored! Make a thread on the appropriate board for support.

1.7.10 and older versions of Minecraft are no longer supported due to it's age! Update to the latest version for support.
