I can add the tags for players like this:

NBTTagCompound tag = player.getEntityData();

		tag.setInteger("IsHost", 1);

But how can I add such a tag to a block?

  • Author

Actually no.. I need to set NBT Tag of a block at specific location(I'd use world.getBlock())..

A block in the world doesn't store any information beyond 4 bits of metadata unless it has a

TileEntity

. What are you trying to achieve?

It's pretty complicated... I made a block that opens a gui. You can click "host game" there.. and now I want to save the name of the player to the block.. and if a player with the same name clicks that blocks, another type of gui opens... I want it cuz I want to reset the host player name after the block breaks(of course when you place a new one, it will reset the value...)

And I don't have any TileEntity... I don't even know how to make one....

This definitely sounds like a use case for a

TileEntity

. You should look for tutorials or look at examples in vanilla code.

Players can change their name now, so you should store their

UUID

instead (

Entity#getUniqueID

). You can use

UsernameCache#getLastKnownUsername

to get the last known username of a player's

UUID

for display purposes.

Block, alike Items are singularities that only define with what you are dealing with.

Things that actually store data are:

* ItemStack for Items (in their NBT)

* 4bits for Blocks. (4bits are called meta in 1.7.10)

If you need more data - you use TileEntity. TileEntity is thing placed "on top" of block position in world (coordincates).

TileEntity can store data (to HDD) alike ItemStack - in NBT, with one difference - it can also have its own fields in its object (ItemStack has only NBT field).

To make TileEntity: (example):

https://github.com/TheGreyGhost/MinecraftByExample/tree/master/src/main/java/minecraftbyexample/mbe20_tileentity_data

For other examples I STRONGLY suggest reading vanilla code - easiest one is Furnace.

1.7.10 is no longer supported by forge, you are on your own.

Yes, you have to learn Java and Forge in order to write anything not-trivial.

I didn't mean java or forge dummie, I meant the code for tileentities and the code you sent me a link for isn't working anyway. I get errors in eclipse everywhere

you are not supposed to copy paste it. that code is for 1.8, u are in 1.7.

if u know a bit about java and minecraft u can downgrade in no time

  • Author

I could only downgrade the  BlockTileEntityData.java but have no damn idea how to downgrade the  TileEntityData.java

so what is ur problem then? we cant help u if u just say "dont works"

dont exepct to get a good mod without some effort
