I'm trying to update my Minecraft client to 1.8.8 after years and years of playing 1.7.2 with Forge, Optifine, and a half-dozen other mods.  So I'm looking at something like this:

How do I tell which version of Minecraft all of those are for?  As far as I can tell, the only ("recommended") download is for "1.8" and does not work with "Optifine 1.8.8".  (A HUGE error is thrown, and Minecraft doesn't launch.)

Thanks, but that wasn't the question.  I already know that, as evidenced by the download(s) being "1.8".

You select the Minecraft version at the top of the page.

 

Ah, ok.  I see that now.  Mousing over the stuff at the top has different subsets (1.6.x), IF there are different subsets available (1.6.1, 1.6.2, etc).

 

(You can tell it's been a REALLY long time since I updated...)
