Posted October 15, 20159 yr I would like to do some custom overlay rendering on items in the inventory. In fact, it is very similar to this tutorial here http://www.minecraftforge.net/wiki/Custom_2D_Inventory_Item_Renderer. However, that tutorial appears to be for 1.7.x, and a lot of what that tutorial is doing has been removed or is deprecated in 1.8. How can this be done in 1.8? I just need a pointer in the right direction, and I should be able to work the rest of it out for myself.
October 15, 20159 yr Easiest way would be looking in this tutorial : http://bedrockminer.jimdo.com/modding-tutorials/basic-modding-1-8/first-item/ In 1.8 using textures had changes a lot and you have to handle JSON files. To test your json´s you could use this, cause eclipse don´t check json´s. http://jsonlint.com/ Kaneka
October 15, 20159 yr IItemRenderer is deprecated as of 1.8. In 1.8 everything has been replaced by pregenerated models or combination of them which can also be easily rotated/moved around. Goal is use cached models instead of rendering everything "on run" with GL. Now - if you need custom rendering you will need ISmartItemModel which has tutorial here: https://github.com/TheGreyGhost/MinecraftByExample/tree/master/src/main/java/minecraftbyexample/mbe15_item_smartitemmodel (assets included in their directory). Note that there are a lot more model interfaces that can be used to archieve probably anything you want. Only way to learn true power of 1.8 rendering is to sit, analyse and code for hours. 1.7.10 is no longer supported by forge, you are on your own.
October 15, 20159 yr Author Easiest way would be looking in this tutorial : http://bedrockminer.jimdo.com/modding-tutorials/basic-modding-1-8/first-item/ Thanks, I have spent quite a bit of time with those tutorials. I have rendered many items as described there. It doesn't address my current situation. I am aware that item rendering has changed quite a bit in 1.8, and so far I have avoided doing any GL rendering directly. I have in fact sat and analyzed code for hours already . I will spend some time with ISmartItemModel to see if that will allow me to do what I want.
