I am new to this forge server thingy. I can play just fine with the mods installed without creating a server. I wanted to make a modded server for Minecraft 1.8 in order to play with my friends, I followed various tutorials and did everything just fine. When I dont put anything in the mods folder of Forge Server then it doesnt crash, but whenever I put some mods and start the server then it always crashes on me.  What should I do? HELP !

You installed a client-only mod (Xaero's Minimap) on the server.

Hmm, thought of that but I removed that mod and put in Optifine mod ( OptiFine_1.8.0_HD_U_D5 ) and then the same thing happens ! Just now, I removed the Optifine mod from the folder then I tried downloading the new Xaero's minimap mod ( xaeros_minimap_v1.7.3_Forge_1.8 ) and then tried putting it in the mods folder then again :

Oh I didnt know that ! So, I have to download and put server side mods for it to work, right? That means the optifine and xaero minimap or any other clientside mods are meant to be for clients only, right? Thank you so much guys :)

Most Forge mods are universal, so they can be installed on both sides (and usually require this); but some are client-only or server-only, so they won't work if you install them on the wrong side.
