I am making a mod, that will have a lot of ingot textures, so lots of similar textures.

So I am colorizing them on preinitialization...

But I don't know, how I can read the files from the exported jar file, and where can I save the converted textures, to use them for items/blocks.

You can use a gray-scale image for the base texture for every ingot, and return a different color with the

getColorFromItemStack

method for each ingot.

Don't PM me with questions. They will be ignored! Make a thread on the appropriate board for support.

How Exactly do I use this method?

I tried:

Item item = new Item();
	item.setUnlocalizedName(name);
	item.setTextureName(Reference.MODID + ":" + tex);
	item.setCreativeTab(tab);
	item.getColorFromItemStack(new ItemStack(item), color);
	GameRegistry.registerItem(item, name);

item.getColorFromItemStack(new ItemStack(item), color);

You're trying to use a getter as a setter. You need to override the getter in your item class.

I think its my java of the variables.

It's a getter, not setter - logically: You don't call it, you override it to return stuff you want it to return.

You need to make class extending Item class that Overrides Item#getColorFromItemStack and returns some integer (color is an integer) based on ItemStack passed to method. Inside ItemStack you can save color as damage or NBT data.

EDIT Ahhh.. he was faster :D

1.7.10 is no longer supported by forge, you are on your own.

Now It is working.

Thanks a lot for the help, and for extending my java knowledge about getters.
