Look at class ChunkProviderGenerate, especially its replaceBlocksForBiome method. I see a Forge event hook in there that could be useful if you subscribe to it.

The debugger is a powerful and necessary tool in any IDE, so learn how to use it. You'll be able to tell us more and get better help here if you investigate your runtime problems in the debugger before posting.

Once you've chosen a position to generate your ore at, you can use

World#getBiomeGenForCoords

to check the biome at that position. If it's the right biome, generate your ore; otherwise do nothing.
