[1.9.4][Solved] Making a custom wall without extending BlockWall

Before I made my custom wall extend BlockWall but it had some problems and that's why I want to create my own wall class. This is what I have done:

The problem is that it stays in the state when it's connected to all sides.

I have a custom walls mod that extends BlockWall in 1.8. What issues did you run into?

 

I ask because I wonder what I might need to know when I get around to upgrading to 1.9.4+
