[1.9.4]Custom armor model not working

okay so i have the items texture working but when i put it in my armor slots i get this error

its the same for both layers.

i only have the item textures put throw the getItemModelMesher for the texture but i don't know if the armor needs to be as well and i don't know how the .json file would be set up. if i change the name of the armor model to [_layer_1, _layer_2] it works, so how do i change it so it looks for [silver1, Silver2] or something along that lines?
