Tekkit keeps saying I need minecraft forge for server?

Hi Im new to the forum. I am trying to connect to my friends server constantly. Ever since the update it has said "This server requires you to have Minecraft Forge installed" with a link. I have installed minecraft forge twice, the newest. I have even followed something on this forum I found and opened the files in winrar and copied them to minecraft.jar (also in winrar) and that still hasnt made a difference. I want to be able to play tekkit! Could anyone help so that Tekkit realises I do have Minecraft Forge installed? Or am I doing this all wrong?

Use the EXACT version of the client pack for connecting to the server!

This isn't building better software, its trying to grab a place in the commit list of a highly visible github project.

Eg if server is running 3.1.3, you use the 3.1.3 client to connect.

Read the EAQ before posting! OR ELSE!

Having an issue

do you notice that it stops the internal server for the singleplayer worlds.
