Help ... tearing hair out

The daughter wants to get some mods installed but i am struggling with it.

She has a windows 10 laptop with Minecraft Edition 10 installed.

I have installed google chrome and then JAVA.  I then downloaded the forge installer but it says "there is no minecraft directory setup."

Whats the problem ? is it because of the version she has is too "new" ? do we need to buy another minecraft version i.e. earlier before minecraft forge will work?

Thanks in advance.

Forge is only for the Java version of Minecraft, and not for the Windows 10 edition. You'd have to buy the Java version from www.minecraft.net and install Forge for that.

Don't PM me with questions. They will be ignored! Make a thread on the appropriate board for support.

1.12 -> 1.13 primer by williewillus.

1.7.10 and older versions of Minecraft are no longer supported due to it's age! Update to the latest version for support.

I recommend you buy it directly from them at https://minecraft.net/

ok bought it from there, tried installing and all it comes up with is:

"Unable to start the Minecraft Runtime Environment. This is most likely caused by a corruption.  Please try to reinstall Minecraft"

Tried a few times and again after rebooting and it keeps coming up with same errors.

Try one of the other launchers found here: https://minecraft.net/en-us/download/alternative

I would recommend the last one named Minecraft.jar, it should almost definetly work (Windows is "Other" in this case).

It requires that you have Java installed separately, make sure you have the 64-bit version of Java found here: https://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp (the one named "Windows Offline (64-bit)"). If you just clicked the buttons on the Java site you likely got the 32-bit versions unless you have a 64-bit browser, which is unlikely, if so you can safely uninstall the 32-bit version before installing the 64-bit version (so you don't have to worry about which version Minecraft is actually using).

With the .jar version of the launcher the game will be installed under C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft where you will find the mods folder after you install Forge (run the launcher at least once before installing Forge).
