Locking a sprite from a dropped item in fast graphics mode

Is there a way to lock a sprite graphic in place so it doesn't always face the player? I have some items that I want to render in a fixed position. In fancy graphics this is not a problem, the items render in my TileEntitySpecialRenderer just fine, but in fast graphics mode they turn to sprites and always face the player. I just want to lock them so they cannot rotate.
