Forge says successful but isn't in versions menu of launcher.

I just downloaded and ran forge into my minecraft folder. It says successful, but when I go in my launcher to versions forge is not there. Please help! Edit: I am also running minecraft on an external hard drive. Edit: SOLVED Minecraft was running the launcher directly from my computer so I had to download Forge to that folder and then redirect the mods folder to the external hard drive. It works now.
