How would I send a vanilla packet from the client to the server?

I can't figure out how to do so. I know it has to do with NetworkManager. (BTW I am trying to send attack packet)

I'm trying to make the client send an attack packet to the server. I found the .attackEntityFrom() and .attackEntityWithCurrentItem() but both require an entity and .attackEntityFrom() requires a damage amount which I am guessing doesn't work on a server. I tried .swingItem() but that does not work.

(from a users perspective)

What you described is from modders perspective, not the user perspective.

Let's say you make an Item which attacks all mobs around you. The only thing a user sees is that all mobs around him/her are attacked.

Describe from a user's perspective what should happen. This way we can help you with the implementation details.

Don't PM me with questions. They will be ignored! Make a thread on the appropriate board for support.

The reason we want to know what you're trying to do from user perspective is that sending an attack packet directly is not necessarily the best way to accomplish it. For example, if this is an item that you use to activate then there are already methods for turning item use into attacks. If you have a tile entity that is attacking then there are methods appropriate for that. And so forth.

I'm just messing around with sending packets from player, I found some of them have methods, but it seems the attack method does not have one that I can find, except the two I listed above. I don't really have an end goal tbh. I just want to figure out how to send an attack packet from the player. I can use Packet 7 to swing items 10,11,12,13 with the player variable. But what is the method to make a player attack, and if there is not one how do I send the attack packet from a player to the server.

Are you asking about which packet is used for attacks? It should be the CPacketUseEntity using the constructor that just passes an Entity (i.e. the target).

It is normally created in the PlayerControllerMP#attackEntity() method.

Use Forge's SimpleImpl to create custom packets.
