I understand and read the Rules and EAQ post, however, it tells me to go to a forum for modding support but it links to a dead end. (http://www.minecraftforge.net/forum/board,73.0.html/).

Moving forward,
I am attempting to start into modding. I am also taking classes specifically for Java to do so. The issue I have run into is while following this WONDERFUL guide, I have run into an error I can't seem to correct on the 4th step.

"Open up a command prompt in the folder you created in step (3), then run gradlew setupDecompWorkspace. This will download a bunch of artifacts from the internet needed to decompile and build Minecraft and forge. This might take some time, as it will download stuff and then decompile Minecraft. Note that, in general, these things will only need to be downloaded and decompiled once, unless you delete the gradle artifact cache."

I posted the error in the png attached to this post. I have 10.0.1 Java of the JDK but it seems to not care. I have tried Googling the issue before ending up here but all I was finding was not useful information. But maybe I am just bad at Googling suddenly.

You need to use Java 8, if you need Java 10 for something else Gradle will use whatever Java version you point to with the JAVA_HOME environment variable. (i.e. my JAVA_HOME variable is "D:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_152")

The only official source for Forge is https://files.minecraftforge.net, and the only site I trust for getting mods is CurseForge.

If you use any site other than these, please take a look at the StopModReposts project and install their browser extension, I would also advise running a virus scan.

Correction, I am actually stupid.


:findJavaFromJavaHome
set JAVA_HOME=C:/Program Files/Java/jdk1.8.0_172
set JAVA_EXE=%JAVA_HOME%/bin/java.exe


Set this up and still not managing it. I'd prefer to use whatever version is best for modding, but I am finding it a bit hard to tell if that is 10 or 8.

Forge requires Java 8, from there it's just a recommendation to use the latest, I'm not completely clear on what will force gradle to refresh itself from the environment variables, but it might require a reboot to make sure.

    • Hey guys, i'm currently developping a mod with forge 1.12.2 2860 and i'm using optifine and gradle 4.9. The thing is i'm trying to figure out how to show the player's body in first person. So far everything's going well since i've try to use a shader. The player's body started to blink dark when using a shader. I've try a lot of shader like chocapic, zeus etc etc but still the same issue. So my question is : How should i apply the current shader to the body ?     • Item successfully registered, but there was a problem with the texture of the item, it did not insert and has just the wrong texture.     
    • Keep on using the original Launcher Run Vanilla 1.12.2 once and close the game Download Optifine and run optifine as installer (click on the optifine jar) Start the launcher and make sure the Optifine profile is selected - then test it again  
    • Hi everyone, I’m hoping to revisit an old version of Minecraft — specifically around Beta 1.7.3 — for nostalgia’s sake. I’ve heard you can do this through the official Minecraft Launcher, but I’m unsure how to do it safely without affecting my current installation or save files.
