Hi all, I recently installed both Java and FML to try and download some mods, and it seems to be all good until I launch the forge profile. It gets to about 3/7 and just crashes my entire computer. I would provide a log but I can't as my computer crashes every time. My OS is Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and my Java version is 1.8.0_171 and I installed the 1.12.2 version of FML.

I read the rules and EAQ and couldn't find a solution for this. Any and all help is appreciated, thanks.

EDIT: I forgot to add this but when I look into my .minecraft folder it doesn't seem like Forge installed at all?

By "log" we don't mean the stuff in the console window that pops out, copying and pasting hat has weird formatting anyway.

No we want the debug.log file that is generated, it's in your logs folder and has everything previously reported to the console window and possibly more.

From the presence of an hs_err_pidxxxx.log this is likely something happening within Java itself, so please include that as well.

This is my Forum Signature, I am currently attempting to transform it into a small guide for fixing easier issues using spoiler blocks to keep things tidy.

As the most common issue I feel I should put this outside the main bulk:

The only official source for Forge is https://files.minecraftforge.net, and the only site I trust for getting mods is CurseForge.

If you use any site other than these, please take a look at the StopModReposts project and install their browser extension, I would also advise running a virus scan.

For players asking for assistance with Forge please expand the spoiler below and read the appropriate section(s) in its/their entirety.

I saw something in hs_err_pidxxxx.log. Something about core dumps?

Debug and hs_err_pidxxxx.log:

debug.log

hs_err_pid7443.log
